Services

This page runs you through what I can currently help with, and what’s planned for later once my HMRC AML supervision comes through.

On this page:

1. Start here

I help sole traders, small businesses, landlords and community organisations know where they stand, what needs attention, and what to do next with their records and paperwork.

You don’t need to have everything organised before getting in touch. Often, the first step is just working out:

  • what records you’ve actually got;
  • what might be missing;
  • what feels unclear;
  • what needs finding, requesting or recreating;
  • what a sensible next step looks like.

2. Current service status

HMRC AML registration has been submitted and paid for and is currently awaiting confirmation. Approval is currently expected in the late July to early August 2026 timeframe, though this depends on HMRC’s processing time and is not guaranteed. MRS Bookkeeping is not a money service business, or a trust or company service provider, so HMRC’s own guidance confirms it can trade while that application is being processed.

Alongside records organisation, bookkeeping readiness, practical admin support, education and clarity work, I can now also offer bookkeeping for client use, accounts preparation, VAT return preparation, MTD submissions and tax return preparation. Payroll services and formal tax advice will be added once AML supervision is confirmed.

For more detail, see the AML / Service Scope page.

3. Available now

Here’s what’s available now, provided the work stays within my current scope.

3.1 Financial Record Rescue

Status: Available now

If your records feel messy, incomplete, scattered or just hard to make sense of, this is usually where to start.

It typically suits up to a year of records and around 300 transactions — for anything bigger, see Paperwork to Plan below.

I built this for situations like:

  • receipts in boxes, bags, envelopes or folders;
  • paper records mixed in with digital ones;
  • records spread across emails, apps, downloads and paperwork;
  • missing or uncertain records;
  • unclear year-end paperwork;
  • anxiety about speaking to an accountant;
  • worries about MTD readiness;
  • just not knowing where to start.

I can help by:

  • sorting and structuring your records;
  • creating a document inventory;
  • spotting the obvious gaps;
  • grouping paperwork by year, account, document type or whatever’s most useful;
  • helping you understand what you’ve actually got;
  • helping you work out what needs finding, requesting or recreating;
  • putting together a practical next-step plan.

Not currently included: regulated bookkeeping, transaction categorisation for client use, tax return preparation, VAT return preparation, accounts preparation, MTD submissions, payroll services or formal tax advice.

For full details and to make an enquiry, see the Financial Record Rescue page.

3.2 Paperwork to Plan

Status: Available now

This is for bigger or more complex records-organisation jobs.

It typically suits up to 3 years of records and around 1,200 transactions.

It might be right for you if:

  • more than a year of records is involved;
  • records are spread across several places;
  • there’s a larger volume of paperwork;
  • paper and digital records are mixed together;
  • you need a clearer structure before speaking to an accountant;
  • you’re not ready for ongoing bookkeeping but need to regain control.

I can help by:

  • creating a clearer structure out of a bigger records mess;
  • grouping records into practical categories;
  • spotting the obvious gaps or unclear areas;
  • putting together a next-step plan;
  • helping you work out what to do before asking for more formal bookkeeping, tax or accountancy support.

Not currently included: regulated bookkeeping, transaction categorisation for client use, tax return preparation, VAT return preparation, accounts preparation, MTD submissions, payroll services or formal tax advice.

See the Paperwork to Plan page for full details.

3.3 Bookkeeping Readiness Support

Status: Available now

This is for people who aren’t quite ready for a bookkeeper or accountant, but know their current records system needs work.

This might help if:

  • you’re not sure what records you should be keeping;
  • your records are inconsistent;
  • you’ve started a spreadsheet but it’s turned messy;
  • you’ve got accounting software but don’t feel confident using it;
  • you want better habits before the next deadline;
  • you want to get ready for future bookkeeping or MTD requirements.

This might include:

  • practical records-organisation guidance;
  • a simple folder or spreadsheet structure;
  • general education about good record-keeping habits;
  • helping you understand what a bookkeeper or accountant might need from you;
  • working out practical next steps.

Not currently included: transaction categorisation for client use, regulated bookkeeping, tax return preparation, VAT return preparation, accounts preparation, MTD submissions, payroll services or formal tax advice.

See the Bookkeeping Readiness Support page for full details.

3.4 Practical Admin Support

Status: Available now

This is for small businesses or community organisations that need help bringing order to financial paperwork or admin records.

This might include:

  • sorting and labelling documents;
  • creating a simple record structure;
  • separating business paperwork by type or period;
  • helping identify missing or unclear documents;
  • improving basic filing or record-keeping habits;
  • getting your information ready so you can have a more useful conversation with an accountant or adviser.

This is practical organisation and clarity work — it’s not regulated bookkeeping or accountancy work.

See the Practical Admin Support page for full details.

3.5 Clarity / Next-Step Sessions

Status: Available now

This is for business owners who feel stuck, overwhelmed or unsure what to do next.

This might be useful if:

  • you know something’s wrong but can’t see where to start;
  • your paperwork is stopping you from speaking to an accountant;
  • you’re worried about MTD;
  • you want to understand what records actually matter;
  • you need a practical plan rather than a long report.

A session can help you work out:

  • what the main issue seems to be;
  • what records or information might matter;
  • what can be organised now;
  • what needs professional advice from an accountant, tax adviser or other specialist;
  • what the next sensible step should be.

This is general clarity and education work. It’s not tax advice, legal advice, investment advice, regulated financial advice or formal accountancy advice.

See the Clarity / Next-Step Sessions page for full details.

3.6 Self-Managed Records Support

Status: Available now, within current service boundaries

This is for people who want to manage their own records but need a clearer system and better habits.

This might include:

  • a simple records-keeping structure;
  • folder or spreadsheet setup guidance;
  • general education around what to keep;
  • practical routines for keeping records up to date;
  • preparation for future bookkeeping, accountant handover or MTD readiness.

This can suit people who aren’t quite ready to justify ongoing support, prefer doing things themselves, or want more confidence before paying for a bookkeeper or accountant.

See the Self-Managed Records Support page for full details.

3.7 Barefoot Business Advisor Session

Status: Available now

This is a deeper strategic thinking-partner session — for when the issue isn’t just records, but a wider business decision, direction or priority you want to think through properly.

This might help if:

  • you need to make a decision and want to think it through with someone;
  • you want an outside perspective on priorities or workload;
  • you want practical next-step planning at a business-strategy level, not just a records level.

This is general clarity and education work. It’s not tax advice, legal advice, investment advice, regulated financial advice or formal accountancy advice.

See the Barefoot Business Advisor Session page for full details.

3.8 DIY MTD Membership

Status: Available now

A rolling monthly membership for sole traders who want ongoing support getting and staying ready for Making Tax Digital, rather than a one-off session.

This might include:

  • ongoing MTD-readiness education and updates as rules and deadlines develop;
  • practical, recurring records-organisation guidance;
  • access to guides, checklists and resources as they’re produced;
  • general clarity and next-step support on a rolling basis.

Not currently included: MTD submissions, regulated bookkeeping, transaction categorisation for client use, tax return preparation, VAT return preparation, accounts preparation, payroll services or formal tax advice. Cancel any time.

See the DIY MTD Membership page for full details.

4. Bookkeeping, accounts, VAT, tax returns and MTD submissions

Because MRS Bookkeeping is not a money service business, or a trust or company service provider, HMRC’s guidance confirms it can trade while its AML registration is processed. The packages below are now available, with one exception: payroll services will be added once AML supervision is confirmed. Approval is currently expected in the late July to early August 2026 timeframe, though this depends on HMRC’s processing time and is not guaranteed.

4.1 Ongoing Bookkeeping – three tiers

Status: Available now

I offer ongoing bookkeeping in three tiers, depending on your needs, volume and complexity:

  • Essentials — from £49/month — the entry-level tier for the simplest, lowest-volume accounts.
  • Growth — from £89/month — the mid-tier package for growing sole traders and small businesses with more regular transaction volume.
  • Clarity — from £129/month — the fullest tier, for businesses wanting the most comprehensive level of regular support.

All three tiers are available now, within my professional competence, insurance position and agreed engagement terms.

4.2 Catch-up Bookkeeping

Status: Available now — from £60 per hour

This is for clients who need previous periods brought up to date.

This is different from current records-organisation work because it involves regulated bookkeeping, transaction categorisation for client use, or preparation of bookkeeping records — all of which are now part of my current service scope.

4.3 MTD Readiness Package

Status: Available now — from £149

Meant to help sole traders and landlords prepare for Making Tax Digital requirements, including MTD submissions, transaction categorisation and bookkeeping for client use. Formal tax advice remains outside current scope until AML supervision is confirmed.

4.4 VAT returns, tax returns and accounts preparation, and payroll

Status: Available now, except payroll

I now provide VAT return preparation, tax return preparation and accounts preparation, within an agreed written scope and terms.

I don’t currently provide payroll services — this will only be considered once the appropriate supervision, professional competence, insurance position and service terms are in place.

5. If you already have an accountant

You can still get in touch even if you already have an accountant.

A lot of people put off speaking to their accountant because their records feel too messy, incomplete or embarrassing. Current services can help get your records into a clearer, more usable state before that conversation.

This can help you understand:

  • what records you’ve actually got;
  • what might be missing;
  • what questions you might need to ask;
  • what your accountant might need from you;
  • what should happen next.

I don’t replace your accountant and won’t provide formal tax or accountancy advice while AML supervision is pending.

6. If you’re not sure what you need

That’s normal. You don’t need to diagnose the problem before getting in touch — a short enquiry is enough to start.

You might mention:

  • what kind of business or organisation you run;
  • what feels messy or unclear;
  • whether your records are paper, digital or mixed;
  • whether there’s a deadline worrying you;
  • whether you already have an accountant;
  • what you’d like to understand by the end of the process.

If it looks like a good fit, I may suggest Financial Record Rescue, Paperwork to Plan, a Clarity Session, or another practical next step. If you need regulated bookkeeping, tax, VAT, payroll, accounts or MTD submission work before AML supervision is confirmed, I’ll point you towards an accountant, tax adviser or other appropriately supervised professional.

7. Before sending documents

Please don’t send bank statements, ID documents, tax records, payroll information or other confidential documents until I’ve confirmed the right secure handover method.

A short description of your situation is enough to begin. If documents are needed, I’ll explain what’s needed, why, how it should be provided, whether paper or digital is preferred, and what happens to the documents afterwards.

For more information, see the Data Handling / Client Records Notice.

8. Before work begins

No paid work starts without a clear written scope and agreed terms.

Before paid work begins, I’ll normally confirm what’s included, what’s excluded, the price or pricing basis, any limits on volume, time, records or documents, expected timescales, what information or records are needed, how documents should be provided, and payment, cancellation or refund terms where relevant.

Submitting an enquiry doesn’t create a client relationship.

9. What happens next

For a general enquiry:

  1. You send a short message.
  2. I usually reply within 2 business days.
  3. If it makes sense, we arrange a short call.
  4. I confirm whether I can help and what the next step would be.
  5. No paid work starts without a clear written scope and agreed terms.

For a Financial Record Rescue enquiry:

  1. I review your enquiry.
  2. I might ask a few scoping questions.
  3. If it looks suitable, I’ll provide a written scope and indicative price.
  4. No work starts until scope, price and terms are agreed.
