Self-Managed Records Support

This page explains what Self-Managed Records Support covers, who it suits, and how to take the first step.

On this page:

1. In plain English

Self-Managed Records Support is for sole traders, small business owners and landlords who want to manage their own records but need a clearer system and better habits.

2. Who this might help

This can suit people who aren’t quite ready to justify ongoing support, prefer doing things themselves, or want more confidence before paying for a bookkeeper or accountant.

3. What’s included

This might include:

  • a simple records-keeping structure;
  • folder or spreadsheet setup guidance;
  • general education around what to keep;
  • practical routines for keeping records up to date;
  • preparation for future bookkeeping, accountant handover or MTD readiness.

4. Not currently included

Not currently included: payroll services and formal tax advice — these will be added once AML supervision is confirmed. Ongoing bookkeeping, VAT return preparation, tax return preparation, accounts preparation and MTD submissions are now available; see the Services page for details.

5. Pricing

Indicative price: from £199 for a setup/familiarisation session. See the Pricing page for the full picture.

6. Current service status

HMRC AML registration has been submitted and paid for and is currently awaiting confirmation. MRS Bookkeeping is not a money service business, or a trust or company service provider, so HMRC’s own guidance confirms it can trade while that application is being processed.

Alongside records organisation, bookkeeping-readiness, practical admin support, education and clarity work, MRS Bookkeeping now also offers bookkeeping for client use, accounts preparation, VAT return preparation, MTD submissions and tax return preparation. Payroll services and formal tax advice will be added once AML supervision is confirmed.

For more detail, please see the AML / Service Scope page.

7. Before work begins

No paid work starts without a clear written scope and agreed terms.

Before paid work begins, I will normally confirm what is included, what is excluded, the price or pricing basis, expected timescales, and payment, cancellation or refund terms where relevant.

Submitting an enquiry does not create a client relationship.

8. What happens next

  1. You send a short message about your situation.
  2. I usually reply within 2 business days.
  3. If it looks suitable, I provide a written scope and indicative price.
  4. No work starts until scope, price and terms are agreed.
