Bookkeeping Readiness Support

This page explains what Bookkeeping Readiness Support covers, who it suits, and how to take the first step.

On this page:

1. In plain English

Bookkeeping Readiness Support is for sole traders, small business owners and landlords who aren’t quite ready for a bookkeeper or accountant, but know their current records system needs work.

2. Who this might help

This might help if:

  • you’re not sure what records you should be keeping;
  • your records are inconsistent;
  • you’ve started a spreadsheet but it’s turned messy;
  • you’ve got accounting software but don’t feel confident using it;
  • you want better habits before the next deadline;
  • you want to get ready for future bookkeeping or MTD requirements.

3. What’s included

This might include:

  • practical records-organisation guidance;
  • a simple folder or spreadsheet structure;
  • general education about good record-keeping habits;
  • helping you understand what a bookkeeper or accountant might need from you;
  • working out practical next steps.

4. Not currently included

This particular service does not include payroll and PAYE administration or formal tax advice unless that work is separately agreed in writing. Ongoing bookkeeping, transaction categorisation, VAT return preparation, tax return preparation, accounts preparation and MTD submissions are now available; see the Services page for details.

5. Pricing

This is scoped and quoted individually depending on your situation — see the Pricing page for indicative pricing on related services, or get in touch for a quote.

6. Current service status

MRS Bookkeeping is supervised by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) for anti-money laundering purposes and is separately registered with HMRC as a tax agent.

Alongside records organisation, bookkeeping-readiness, practical admin support, education and clarity work, MRS Bookkeeping offers bookkeeping for client use, accounts preparation, payroll and PAYE administration, VAT return preparation, MTD submissions and tax return preparation. Formal tax advice remains outside the current service scope.

For more detail, please see the AML / Service Scope page.

7. Before sending documents

Please do not send bank statements, ID documents, tax records, payroll information or other confidential documents until I have confirmed the appropriate secure handover method.

A short description of the situation is enough to begin. If documents are needed, I will explain what is needed and how they should be provided.

For more information, please see the Data Handling / Client Records Notice.

8. Before work begins

No paid work starts without a clear written scope and agreed terms.

Before paid work begins, I will normally confirm what is included, what is excluded, the price or pricing basis, any limits on volume, time, records or documents, expected timescales, what information or records are needed, how documents should be provided, and payment, cancellation or refund terms where relevant.

Submitting an enquiry does not create a client relationship.

9. What happens next

  1. You send a short message about your situation.
  2. I usually reply within 2 business days.
  3. If it looks suitable, I provide a written scope and indicative price.
  4. No work starts until scope, price and terms are agreed.
