From Skeptic to Bookkeeping Convert

I’ll be honest – there was a time when I thought bookkeeping sounded about as exciting as watching paint dry.

Then, not too long ago, I decided to join an AAT Level 1 course at Petroc. Just one evening a week – mainly to keep my brain busy alongside other courses like British Sign Language and an introduction to the history of art.

Somewhere around week five, something unexpected happened: I realised I was actually enjoying it. Really enjoying it.

As someone who’s neurodivergent, I’ve often found calm in making sense of what looks messy to others. Whether it was leading teams as an RAF officer or working as a senior manager in a global tech company, that same knack for bringing order out of chaos always helped me thrive.

Bookkeeping turned out to be another version of that – taking a jumble of numbers, receipts, and spreadsheets and gently arranging them into something clear and reassuring.

And so, here I am, launching MRS Bookkeeping. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by your records, or just tired of trying to figure it out alone, you’re very welcome here.

In this blog, you’ll find a little bit of everything: reflections from client projects, timely tips to help you run your business more smoothly, and insights from my experience in process improvement, business operations, and revenue growth. This isn’t my first business, and I understand firsthand the challenges (and rewards) of running your own venture.

Here’s to new beginnings, tidy books, and finding joy in unexpected places.
